Germinoma with Involvement of Midline and Off-Midline Intracranial Structures
Germinomas are malignant intracranial germ tumors, usually found in suprasellar regions. Less than 10% are localized in off-middle structures, and synchronous involvement of both structures has only exceptionally been published. A case of an 18-year-old male patient with progressive right-sided hemiparesis and panhypopituitarism was reviewed. Brain MRI showed a solid mass involving pituitary an...
متن کاملThe role of chemotherapy in intracranial germinoma: a case report.
BACKGROUND The case of a 29-year-old man with histologically proven simultaneous germinoma (seminoma) of the pineal gland and a stage I embryonal carcinoma of the testis is reported. An intradural metastatic lesion from the pineal germinoma was diagnosed at the level of the first thoracic vertebra. Treatment, after inguinal orchiectomy, was chemotherapy only, rather than conventional radiothera...
متن کاملPrimary intracranial germinoma presenting as a central skull base lesion.
We report an unusual case of primary intracranial germinoma involving the sphenoid bone and sinus. To the best of our knowledge, paranasal sinus and bone invasion of primary intracranial germinoma has not been previously reported. Recognition of this rare form of presentation by imaging is important because early radiation and chemotherapy can result in a cure of this neoplasm.
متن کاملIntracranial germinoma: the case for lower dose radiation therapy.
PURPOSE To determine the optimal dose and treatment outcome of patients treated with radiation for intracranial germinoma. METHODS AND MATERIALS Between 1975 and 1995, 40 patients with the diagnosis of intracranial germinoma were treated with radiation (RT) to the central nervous system. All patients received whole-brain (WB) RT (median dose: 32.4 Gy, range: 15-44.37 Gy) and a boost to the tu...
متن کاملBifocal primary intracranial germinoma in a child. Case report
Germ cell tumors located in the central nervous system (CNS) represent less than 4% of the intracranial tumors and affect primarily children and young adults. These tumors frequently arise in the suprasellar and pineal region and in the midline structures around the third ventricle. Germ cell tumors can be divided as germinoma and nongerminomatous tumors regarding the histology. Only 5-10% of a...
